Hi,

we plan to migrate our Opencart 1.5.5.1 Version to the Opencart 2.1.0.2 Version with Excelport. But some point are not clear to us - or better, we are not sure about the impact of our SEO.

This is what we plan to do and the goal at the end is to have a new installation of Operncart on our current domain (live domain) so not to have a new site on a new domain.

1. Install a new and fresh Opencart 2.1.0.2 Version on a new Domain (for example) www.test-new.com . (At this time, not additional Modules will be installed on the fresh and new installation. 2. Export Customer Groups, Customers, Categories, Products, orders etc. from "old" Opercart 1.5.5.1 Version. 3. Import Customer Groups, Customers, Categories, Products, orders etc. into "new" Opercart 2.1.0.2 Version. 4. Select (from the bunch of Modules we have, only the one's we want to use for the future on our new Opercart site 2.1.0.2. and all of them have to be compatible with the Version 2.1.0.2. 5. Install the selected and for the Version 2.1.0.2 qualified Modules on the "new" Operncart 2.1.0.2 Site (still running on the domain www.new-test.com . At this time, the site should be ready with the actual data from the old site and also with the required modules. 6. Zip all files from Live site www.test.com and download as backup and also download Database. At this point, nothing is installed on the domain www.test.com . 7. Zip and Download the new and fresh installation Opencart 2.1.0.2 from www.new-test.com and also download Database. 8. Import the content (zip file) of the new and frest installation Opencart 2.1.0.2 to www.test.com . Create new Database and import the SQL file downloaded in the previous step. Change the relevant data (pointing Domain's and the new Database informations) into the config.php and admin/config.php files. 9.Done.

Do you think, by doing the migration this way - that the ranging (SEO) would be affected in a negative way? Or is there other negative impact? Then, we have your extension in the old site and also now for the new version. Is there something i should bear in mind while using Excelport?

We would pretty much appreciate if you could send us a feedback shortly.

Thanks a lot and regards,

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

ExcelPort should not have any direct impact on the SEO of your pages. If you are simply exporting & importing the same information (like titles, descriptions and SEO urls) then you should be good to go. However, if you plan on changing the information, then you can experience changes in your ranking (positive or negative, depending on how Google interprets them.

Hope this helps!
