How to better understand the Cookie Information Panel and the Cookie Scanner
If you are a Premium plan user of the GDPR/CCPA + Cookie Management app and you are interested in finding out more about the exclusive features that the app offers, then keep reading. In this blog post, we will focus on the Cookie Information Panel and the Cookie Scanner. We will help you better understand how these two features work and what you can do with them. Let's start with:
What you should know about the Cookie Information Panel?
This feature is located in the Cookie Consent Bar tab and looks like this:
The Cookie Information Panel allows you to choose whether the cookie information will be displayed to your customers or not.
If you set the setting "Display Cookie information" to Yes, the customers will be able to see the information about their cookies in the Preferences popup.
Upon clicking on the arrow you would be able to see detailed information for each cookie category.
Respectively, if you select to disable this option and set it to No, your website visitors won't be able to see this information.
How does the Cookie Scanner work?
This feature is also located in the Cookie Consent Bar tab and shows all of the cookies that are present in your store, when a customer lands on it for the first time.
By clicking on the Scan for cookies button you will get the list of the cookies that are currently on your store.
Afterwards click on the Auto-transfer scanned cookies button. Right under the button you will see the cookies that are either custom or there is no information about them.
In order to get more information about these cookies, we suggest using a tool like CookieServe. That way you will be able to find the cookies used on your webstore, their type, description, and duration. At this point you will have all the details needed to add the cookie manually through the Cookie Information Panel.
To add the cookie go back to the Cookie Information Panel and follow these steps:
1. Go to the Add cookie section:
- add cookie name
- add cookie description
- choose cookie category
2. To confirm the changes click the Add Cookie button
To check whether the cookie is successfully added to the category go back to the Cookie Scanner and scan the cookies once again. After that click the auto-transfer button to see if there are any cookies left.
If you want to make changes on the description and/or category of a specific cookie, you can go to the Select a cookie to modify section and choose the cookie you want to edit.
Here we decided to modify the cookie description. In order to make the changes follow these steps:
1. Go to the cookie description section and change the information shown there
2. Save the cookie
