Introducing Translation tab in the GDPR/CCPA app

A new Translation tab has been recently introduced in the settings of the GDPR/CCPA + Cookie Management app. There, you will find the two options for changing the language for the GDPR/CCPA Request pages and emails, and the Language for the data collection text. We have also introduced two new buttons: 'Refresh Metafields' and 'Add metafields to theme.liquid'.

What are the metafields?

Before all else, let’s explain what the metafields are. Metafields are extra pieces of data that apps can attach to products, customers, orders, and other objects in Shopify. They are useful for storing information like part numbers, customer titles, blog post summaries, or as it is in this case, help with the translation of specific fields introduced by 3rd party apps.

Here is what the buttons do:

  • Refresh Metafields - press the button to set up the metafields. That way they will be visible in the settings of the translation app that you are using.

Note: It is recommended to refresh the metafields in case of any text changes of the Consent Bar or Preferences popup in the Cookie Consent Bar tab.

  • Add metafields to theme.liquid file - this button will add the necessary code, for our app to work correctly with those metafields.

If you are on a Free plan, you have to manually add the code in your theme.liquid filŠµ, by following the steps below:

  • Go to your theme.liquid file. You can do this by navigating to Online Store -> Themes -> Actions -> Edit code -> theme.liquid.

  • Locate the <head> tag. It is at the very beginning of the file.

If you want the metafields to work with your translation app you have to follow a few steps:

  1. Press the Refresh Metafields button.

  2. Add the code to the theme.liquid file manually, or by pressing the button.

  3. Navigate to the settings of the translation app that you are using to check whether the metafields are successfully added there.

The reason for introducing this new tab is for you to have a more convenient place where all translation related settings are gathered.
