How Vasaboden Doubled Their Yearly Turnover in Just 2 Months with OpenCart

We want to introduce you to another E-Commerce store running on OpenCart. Vasaboden is a store from Sweden with decades of history in their industry.

Micke Johansson is the founder of Vasaboden, a business operating circa 1980, and there’s much he can teach about making an impact on your business by investing in a digital expansion.

Introduce your business with a few words

Vasaboden have been selling sport trophies and promotional products since 1980.

In 2008 we joined the E-Commerce train and back then we used osCommerce as our platform. We did not have many products online and we did not sell much. In 2011, we changed to the OpenCart platform.

Tell us about your website and the tools you are using

In 2015 we started working with iSenseLabs. We use many of their modules and also we have some functions that iSenseLabs have custom made for us. NitroPack Cache and the SEO Pack Pro are our two favorites.

Almost all of our products can be modified by our customers before they add them to the cart. For example a medal can be modified with:

  • Text
  • Font
  • Sport image
  • Color of ribbon
  • Color of medal

Here the iSenseLabs team have setup the text/font and functions for choosing images. We have 1,000+ different images and it’s important that the images load fast for our buyers.

For iSenseLabs everything is possible and when they work, they are one step ahead all the time.

What has been your growth for the past few years?

About growth. I have all numbers saved since 2010. The two best months so far in 2016 have generated 50% better turnover than the whole 2010! And 2016 compared to 2015 - we have doubled the turnover (and still there is two months left of 2016)!

We are happy about that and understand that E-Commerce is the future.

How did you promote your products online?

SEO Pack Pro helped us a lot. We have good ranking for our keywords. Many of our sales are from organic Google search.

To boost the sales we use AdWords and also send out newsletters and posts on Instagram & Facebook weekly. We have not yet tried the newsletter module - but I think we are going to in the near future.

What’s your advice for new entrepreneurs and future store owners?

Do what you do best yourself and hire a professional to do the rest. When you get the quote for that superduper function to your site it might look expensive - but how much money are you losing now when you do not have this function?

If you feel that you do not have the money to invest - then start slow and expand by time.

And another experience - do not install modules from a ton of different developers. Especially not the free ones. Maybe it’s only me that has had problems with modules and functions that are not compatible with each other? I guess not.
