CodeManager - FTP clients? There’s a simpler solution.

What is CodeManager?

CodeManager is a web-based IDE framework for OpenCart, which makes cooperation between store owner and developer even easier and safer. With CodeManager you can easily give access to developers directly from your OpenCart administration. It has easy to use interface and many features:

  • Multi-tabbed interface
  • Create, edit, delete, duplicate, upload and download files
  • Create and manage users
  • Modify file & folder permissions
  • Source code highlighting
  • Search in files & folders
  • Full screen support
  • Drag & drop capabilities
  • and many more…

Everything is done directly from your browser. As we mentioned earlier no more issues with the FTP access, server problems, port issues and etc.

CodeManager is based on the Codiad IDE, which is a fast and interactive file manager.

What are the requirements?

Apache 2 based server, PHP 5 (or newer) and read/write access to some of the folders of the module. Let's not forget that you should also have vQmod installed on your OpenCart store.

Installation

The installation is pretty simple. You just have to upload the files in your store, check the required permissions and follow the instructions.

CodeManager Installation

It just cannot get easier than that.

Getting around the interface

After the installation, you will see the awesome interface of the module. On the left side you will see the File Explorer, which shows all files & folders in your project. On the top of the list you can make use of the search engine.

If you right-click on one of the files & folders (you can see that on the image above) you will see the context menu, which has a lot of options. You can choose from Upload, Copy, Paste, Rename, Preview, Delete, Search and Download.

The biggest part of the screen is concentrated on the editor, which has all the flair and functionality of a standard editor. It shines with tabs, code highlighting, split editing and color themes.

On the right side there is a pull-bar which includes the main settings of the module, as well as the settings from the different plugins. The buttons for the full screen modes are also places in this area.

From here you can manage your projects and save the opened files. If you want to leave the bar open, you can click on the upper left icon. This action will change it to a lock icon and will keep the panel open.

How to grant user permissions?

Okay you are probably thinking that this all sounds pretty cool, but how can you actually get started and provide developer access to someone? You just have to click on the “Grant temporary access details” and the module will provide you with a username and password which you can give to your developer. They will have access only to this module and nothing more.

When the developer is done with their task, you can revoke their access from the “View all users with access” button. A new popup will show up displaying all users with access to your site.

Once you double check that everything is working as expected you can remove the user along with their access to your store by clicking on the Delete button.

In conclusion

CodeManager is an easy, flexible solution allowing you to quickly generate username and password without sharing your FTP credentials. For those of you seeking extra features, we have CodeManager Pro, which provides, versioning, Terminal Support, TODO list, GIt support and many more.

How much does it cost?

The answer to this question is pretty simple - CodeManager is absolutely FREE. There are no advertisements or anything else that will distract your developer or block their work. You can download it and try it right now.
